Katy Perry Hates Wild Animals?


Katy Perry is a pop star known for her energy and innovation, and is not afraid to go any length to entertain her adoring fans. Entertainment should however be done within limits, especially when such limits involve the preservation of life. Certain species of animals are endangered and face the risk of going extinct, and in preserving them utmost care must be exercised, which cannot be guaranteed when they are used in music videos…



In the making of the video for her new single "Roar", Katy reportedly featured exotic animals, and this has earned her a serious backlash from animal rights activists. The 28-year-old singer is seen on screen with the animals including tigers and monkeys in the promo, and in one scene, the "Teenage Dreams" star even appears to paint the toenails of an elephant with bright pink polish. She has now been criticised by the officials at People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), who are furious with her decision to feature the endangered creatures onscreen.



"Animals used for entertainment… endure horrific cruelty and suffer from extreme confinement and violent training methods. They often become stressed and anxious when hauled around and forced into unfamiliar or frightening situations", said a spokeswoman for PETA.

Serengeti Ranch, the company which provided the animals, has also come under fierce criticism. "The Serengeti Ranch, the animal exhibitor that we believe supplied the animals for the Roar video, has been inspected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture 22 times since 2001, with a total of 13 citations during that time", the spokeswoman added.

"Roar" is currently No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, as well as the UK Singles chart. Perry's album Prism is due to release Oct. 22.
