Reward for hardwork...yes! I think I should just fall in love with an athlete....Blessing Okagbare (let me call her Queen of the track) has been rewarded with a bonus of $7,000 (N1,132,390) for her record breaking win, in the Women's 100m race at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Blessing won in a time of 10.85 seconds, creating a new games record,
making her the second fastest woman of all time in World 100 metres.
She beat Jamaican sprinter, Veronica Campbell-Brown to emerge the
fastest woman in the Commonwealth games and also broke Debbie
Fergusonl’s 10.91 seconds of 12 years.
Blessing instantly became the first Nigerian winner of this title since Mary Onyali back in 1994
An obviously excited sports minister, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, has ordered
that the National Sports Commission without delay pay medallists the
agreed sums of cash bonus for gold, silver and bronze medals
respectively.
Under the arrangement, any athlete who wins a Gold medal will go home
with $7,000, Silver medalist will get $4,000 while any athlete who wins
Bronze medal will go home with $3,000 bonus. The minister said,
“We want to make the athletes happy by paying them the money that the Federal Government promised on the spot. We do not want them to collect it after the Games, but as soon as they win they get their money. This will serve to further motivate them,”
Remember me in your kingdom Blessing, lol...I post your story for people to read oooo...hehehe.
