Asisat Oshoala wins Women’s Player of the Year


The 2016 Gala event of the prestigious Glo-CAF Awards held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at the International Conference Centre. Algerian and Leicester City soccer star, Riyad Mahrez emerged the African Player of the Year 2016, after garnering 361 of the votes. Last year’s winner, Aubameyang, finshes in 2nd place with 313 votes.

Denis Onyango of The Cranes was voted African Player of the Year (Based in Africa) with 252 votes. Bakary Papa Gassama of Gambia was Named Referee of the Year again. Asisat Oshoala of the Super Falcons and Arsenal was Women’s Player of the Year. The Super Eagles native Kelechi Iheanacho was named the Most Promising Talent.
Nigeria's Super Falcons emerged the Women’s National Team of the Year after winning their 8th AFCON Title.
