Alaafin of Oyo Arrives Durban Stadium on Chariot, Installs Gani Adam as the New Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland

Gani Adams, leader of the Oodua People's Congress has been installed as the new Aare Oba Kakanfo of Yorubaland. The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, and the new Aare Ona Kakanfo, Gani Adam, have arrived at the Durban Stadium, the venue of installation of Adams as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland in Oyo. According to Punch, the duo arrived the venue of the ceremony seated in the chariot which was followed by convoy of vehicles amidst chanting of Iku Baba Yeye from the crowd who followed them.

Alaafin of Oyo files suit to halt police investigation

The Alaafin of Oyo, Lamidi Adeyemi, has approached the Federal High Court, Ibadan, requesting a leave to appeal a judgment of the court. An earlier ruling by the court compelled the Inspector General of Police, IGP, to investigate alleged criminal activities of the monarch. On December 15, the police chief, in a motion of mandamus filed by Jacob Oluokun and Sulaiman Ajiboye, was compelled by the court in suit No FHC/IB/CS/54/2014 to investigate the allegations of murder, gun running, bomb planting and human right abuses against the monarch, as contained in a petition to the office of the police boss, dated March 18, 2014.
