Facebook could launch its own cryptocurrency 'as early as next year'


Move over Bitcoin. Facebook is reportedly gearing up to launch its own cryptocurrency called GlobalCoin as soon as next year. Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg met Bank of England governor Mark Carney last month to discuss the plans, according to the BBC . He is also thought to have spoken to the US treasury and firms such as Western Union, to develop an affordable way for people to send money between each other.

Facebook co-founder, Mark Zuckerberg has paid tribute to his wife of seven years by sharing a photo of the couple visiting the Parthenon in Greece. “Celebrating 7 years of happy marriage at the temple for the goddess of wisdom,” he captioned the sweet selfie, in which he and Chan, 34, smile for the camera, each rocking their own pair of shades.

Apple battles Facebook with new features to stop Tracking users


Apple boss, Tim Cook has taken aim at Facebook once again by calling for greater regulation of tech companies who may be abusing user privacy with data collection. In a wide-ranging interview, Cook told CNN that issues around privacy have 'gotten totally out of control' and that some form of regulation would be 'fair'. The comments come as Apple unveiled a slew of new features for its Safari browser that are aimed at limiting Facebook, Google and other tech giants from tracking users across the web. Silicon Valley tech giants have been facing heightened scrutiny as consumers, officials and others continue to question their data collection practices.

Facebook set to check business, media posts


Facebook plans major changes to news feed from media and businesses to focus on personal interactions, which may lead to people spending less time on the website, its CEO said. “As we roll out, you’ll see less public content like posts from businesses, brands, and media. “The public content you see more will be held to the same standard — it should encourage meaningful interactions between people,” Mark Zuckerberg wrote.

WhatsApp To Launch Feature That Will Enable Users Unsend Embarrassing Messages

The WhatsApp messaging service is releasing a new 'Delete for Everyone' feature that will let you unsend messages.
Users will only have five minutes from when the message is sent to delete it, and only messages that haven't been opened by the recipient can be removed.

Facebook to Pay 110m Euro Fine for Deceit

Popular social media platform, Facebook will pay a whopping 110 million Euro fine for deceit after it was charged by the European Union (EU) antitrust regulators. European Union (EU) antitrust regulators on Thursday said they would fine Facebook 110 million euros (122.4 million dollars) for providing misleading information over its purchase of messaging service WhatsApp in 2014. Calling it a “proportionate and deterrent fine,” the European Commission, which acts as the EU’s competition watchdog, said Facebook had said it could not automatically match user accounts on its namesake platform and WhatsApp but two years later launched a service that did exactly that.

Woman Dies After Spending First Night With Married Man She Met On Facebook


Another Facebook lover has died in Lagos a few years after Cynthia Osokogwu, the daughter of a retired miliitary officer, was allegedly lured to Lagos by her Facebook lover, drugged, raped and murdered in Festac Town. The latest victim, identfied as Adekemi Faboro, who teaches at a private nursery and primary school, in Ojota,died in Ogba area of Lagos last weekend while on a date with her married Facebook lover, Christopher Ezekiel, for the first time.

Hundreds of millions of people worldwide were unable to use Facebook and Instagram for around an hour today after an alleged cyber-attack. An online group Lizard Squad have however claimed they hacked the two social media sites at around 6am GMT.
