Lagos to shut tax defaulting firms,banks from Nov 20th

Tax defaulting firms are to be shut down by the Lagos State Government from today Commissioner for Finance Akinyemi Ashade, said yesterday. He said some banks had failed to remit statutory taxes, including withholding taxes on banks’ interests for more than 10 years. Ashade said the government had resolved to resort to all lawful means to ensure compliance with statutory tax remittances.

LASG Shuts Illegal Plank Market

The Lagos State Government yesterday ordered the immediate closure of an illegal plank market in Oko-Baba Extension in the Yaba Local Council Development Area of the state. The government said the market was a safe haven for hoodlums and posed security threats, which informed the decision. The Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Muslim Folami, in a statement, said innocent citizens and commuters were victims of criminal activities perpetrated in the area.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has arrested eight of its officials for collecting bribe from motorists and other corrupt practices, Sunday Punch reports.

The officials, who are attached to the Agege-Pen Cinema Office of the Agency, were arrested last week. They are Adebeshin Adeola, Davies Idowu, Folashade Abolade, Shittu Lanre, Akinkotu Olusoga, Olowu Said, Olaoye Peter and Adebola Said.

Badoo smashes woman’s head after church vigil

Suspected members of the Badoo cult disguised as worshippers on Saturday to attack the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Okin Parish, Igbo Agbowa, Ibeshe, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. PUNCH Metro learnt that a woman, who had attended a vigil in the church, was injured after her head was smashed with a stone. It was gathered that three Badoo suspects had mingled with the congregation during the vigil, which ended around 3am on Saturday. Shortly after the members slept off, the assailants reportedly struck, smashing the stone on the head of the woman whose name had yet to be ascertained. Our correspondent was told that the victim raised the alarm, which woke up other church members and residents of the area.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has terminated a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a consortium of firms to build the 4th Mainland Bridge at the cost of N844 billion. The MoU for the 36 km bridge, which two past administrations had promised to do, was signed on 25 May, 2016. The project was to be financed by Africa Finance Corporation, Access Bank, and other private investors who have already signified intention to be part of the construction, while Visible Assets Limited would be the coordinating firm. The Lagos State Government on Thursday intensified its smart city initiative with the unveiling of a free public Wi-Fi at the Ndubuisi Kanu Park, located at Alausa in Ikeja. The Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led Lagos State government on Thursday, launched free public Wi-Fi at parks and gardens in its resolve to achieve its smart mega city status. The initiative was kick-started at popular the Ndubuisi Kanu Park in Alausa, Ikeja, while others are expected to follow suit, according to the state government. The launch of the initiative is part of activities to mark the 50 year anniversary of the creation of the state.
