Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, PhD, has again attacked the Federal Government, stating that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration is incompetent and incapable of addressing the killings and poverty in the country. He said the government is confused and had reached the end of its tether while the nation was being left perilously to drift. Instead of proffering solutions, he said the government had been wringing its hands and “giving one unrighteous and unacceptable justification after the other.” Obasanjo said this in a letter read on his behalf at a one-day national summit on insecurity and killings in Nigeria convened by the Northern Elders Forum, Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Pan Niger Delta Forum on Wednesday in Abuja.

Exactly 19 years after contesting against each other in Nigeria’s first Presidential election of the 4th Republic, former President Olusegun Obasanjo and a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, will on Tuesday meet at Obasanjo’s Abeokuta residence. The meeting has one agenda: how to unseat President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019. Impeccable sources told The Punch that Falae, who is the Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, and Obasanjo would strategise on how to bring all third force elements under one banner. A source, who is privy to the meeting, said since Buhari had ignored all warnings by Obasanjo and other ex-generals not to seek a second term for the sake of the country, many of such political meetings would be taking place.

The Presidency on Monday night said the administration of President Muhammad Buhari would not join issues with former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his comments on the Buhari administration. NAN reports that Obasanjo had on Monday while addressing a group of youths who visited him at his country home Abeokuta described the Buhari administration as a failure. Obasanjo also asked the All Progressives Congress (APC) -led government to stop complaining about the challenges it met on the ground. “What we have now is failure. Never you reinforce failure, let failure be failure… Those of you who are in business, your business could have been better today if we have a competent and effective and performing government.’’
