England midfielder Frank Lampard is eyeing a
move to the Major League Soccer, America's topflight after leaving
Chelsea early this week, however, he is focused on the World Cup for
now.
Already the player has attracted the
interest of New York City FC who recently acquired the services of
Spain forward David Villa.
The 35 year-old player
is currently with the English National team and has decided not to make a
definite decision until England's World Cup campaign is concluded and
it is rumoured that he may retire from international duty after the
Brazil World Cup.
"The American thing is an option. I'm
looking at different options but I want to carry on playing," Lampard
confirmed New York's interest.
"I'd like to get it sorted soon - not in World Cup time, but after that. I'm not sure it's possible to do now.
"I'm a big enough boy to get on and concentrate fully on this World Cup with England," Lampard added.
Lampard
played 13 years Stamford Bridge, winning both the Champions league,
Premiership title and Europa Cup, he is the all-time leading goal scorer
for Chelsea, he admitted that it was difficult leaving the club he
joined as a young player in 2001: "I never thought I'd see the day,'' he
said.
Lampard will be playing in his last World
and he says that the Chelsea exit and his decision not to speak on any
transfer request now will give him a ''clear head'' at the World Cup. ''I can handle it,'' he says
"It
was a mutual decision. It was a bit of a distraction during the season.
Chelsea have been fantastic with my but it was mutual."
''It's
a weight off my shoulders to a certain extent. I'm concentrating on
training well, playing well and getting an opportunity on Wednesday and
maybe Saturday against Honduras.,'' He added.
Lampard
will be captain in England's international warm-up friendly against
Ecuador on Wednesday June 4 in Miami where the team is currently
preparing for Brazil 2014 World Cup.
