Ebola: The Nigerian Doctor, Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh Dies

This is so sad! Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, the Senior Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist who was one of the doctors who attended to Patrick Sawyer at First Consultant Hospital has died from the Ebola virus which she contracted from Sawyer. Some news sources had reported earlier that she has been discharged, but i guess she never recovered.

The death of Adadevoh, which occurred on Tuesday, has not yet been confirmed by Nigeria’s health authorities. But a source close to the Adadevoh confirmed her passing to SaharaReporters.
Adedavoh becomes the fourth Nigerian to die from the virus, excluding Sawyer.

The Honourable Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, later confirmed the death but avoided mentioning her name. His Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Dan Nwomeh, released a statement on his behalf, saying the death of
“one of the primary contacts of the index Ebola Virus Disease case, the most senior doctor who participated in the management of the patient, a female consultant physician,” occurred this (yesterday) evening.

The statement added:
“With this unfortunate development, the total number of Ebola Virus-related deaths in Nigeria now stands at five. The other two patients currently under treatment in the isolation wards are stable and are being taken care of."
Dr. Ameyo is survived by a son and her husband. She truly was a hero. May her soul rest in peace. Amen.
