Manchester united face PSV without captain rooney

Wayne Rooney has been left out of the Manchester United squad to face PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday

Wayne Rooney will not feature for Manchester United against PSV tomorrow, as he continues his recovery from a slight hamstring problem. The England captain will not travel to Eindhoven for the match, in the hope that he will be ready to face Southampton on Sunday.

Striker James Wilson and midfielder Andreas Pereira have been drafted into the squad. Louis van Gaal had hoped that Rooney, who missed Saturday's 3-1 win over Liverpool, would recover in time for the Champions League opener, but he is unwilling to take any risks on the striker's fitness.
Rooney's absence may mean a first start for Anthony Martial, who came off the bench to score on his debut against Liverpool. Marouane Fellaini started the match up front but failed to impress, and still looks unnatural in the No 9 position.

The PSV clash is United's first taste of Champions League action since a 3-1 defeat at Bayern Munich in April 2014. Striker James Wilson and attacking midfielder Andreas Pereira have both joined the 18-man squad that faced Liverpool on Saturday on the trip to Holland.
