Turkey’s president says Uber is ‘over’

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has claimed at a Ramadan dinner that the ridesharing outfit’s business is “over” in the country, with the interior ministry reportedly giving “the orders.” Uber currently runs under a license that costs much less than taxi plates (about $760 US instead of $360,000), but Erdogan argued that it was “not possible” to offer a taxi alternative with that lower-cost option.

Police arrest 2 Uber drivers who rob their female passengers

Lagos state police command has arrested two Uber drivers who specialize in robbing their female passengers of their valuables at gunpoint. The men Fosta Rufus, 30, and Franklin Jogbodo, according to, Mohammed Sanusi, Special anti-robbery boss, usually pick up their victims around Lekki, Ajah and Victoria Island areas of Lagos. The suspects stole valuables such as jewelry, expensive phones and cash, from their victims who are ladies who have to be some place at night.

Uber loses licence to operate in London

London transport authorities announced Friday they would not renew Uber’s licence to operate in the city when it expires on September 30 over public safety concerns, although it has three weeks to appeal. Transport for London said the conduct of the ride-hailing app, which has around 25,000 drivers operating in the British capital, had raised concerns. “TfL has concluded that Uber London Limited is not fit and proper to hold a private hire operator licence,” it said in a statement.
