A suspected human trafficker has been arrested by the gallant operatives of the Ogun State Police Command at Isiu, in Owode -Egba area of the state for child trafficking. The Ogun State Police Command has paraded a suspected human trafficker, Paul Aganla, who was arrested on 26th August at Isiu, in Owode -Egba area of the state. The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, disclosed this on Monday at the command’s headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, shortly before parading 43 suspects whose offences ranged from child trafficking, armed robbery to kidnapping and murder.

The Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), has revealed that the federal government has extend the whistle-blowing policy to issues of human trafficking. The President Muhamamdu Buhari-led federal government has extended its whistleblowing policy to the fight against human trafficking. Government’s action is sequel to a request by the Director-General ‎of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Julie Okah-Donli to extend the policy to issues of human trafficking.

FRSC Arrests Human Traffickers With 44 Minors In Kaduna

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it has arrested a vehicle for overloading along Kaduna-Zaria road, which was later discovered to be occupied by suspected child traffickers with 44 minors.

The Public Education Officer, FRSC, Bisi Kazeem, in a statement disclosed that the driver of the vehicle, Dauda Ezekiel from Gubuchi Village in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna state claimed that he was hired to transport the minors.

According to Kazeem, the vehicle was impounded when FRSC officials could not get satisfactory response from the adults who were with the minors.

According to Okah-Donli, UNESCO ranks human trafficking as the third most lucrative criminal enterprise in Nigeria. Thus, agencies like NAPTIP need goodlaws, sustained funding and equally important, critical support from local and global stakeholders to execute the urgent war against human trafficking.

An Imo State-based businessman has been arrested for allegedly belonging to a syndicate that traffics girls to Saudi Arabia. The suspect, Bernard James, reportedly worked with accomplices in Ghana, who sent girls to him for trafficking to Saudi Arabia, where they would work as housemaids. Punch Metro learnt that one Theresa, who lives in Accra, had procured Ghanaian passports and Saudi Arabia visas for four girls, but was unable to facilitate their travelling through Accra airport due to some immigration laws. Names of two of the girls were given as Salamatu Al-Hassan, 22, and 18-year-old Memunat Isiaka. She was said to have contacted James to get the victims cleared at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
