The outcome of ASUU meeting with FG

Yesterday’s meeting between ASUU and FG reached a stalemate. The meeting lasted for about three hours. Governor Gabriel Suswan, the chairman of the Needs Assessment Implementation Committee announced the launch of N100billion by September 1, 2013 to address inadequate infrastructure in all Universities in Nigeria.
An additional N30 billion was further approved by the Federal Government to the University Council as against the initial N92 billion which was demanded by ASUU to resolve the issue of earned allowances. Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, who is the Secretary to the Government of the Federation told Journalists that the fund is only to clear off the backlogs but would need to verify ASUU’s claims.
Professor Nasir Faggae, the chairman of ASUU however noted that the government intervention move is similar to a re-negotiation of the 2009 agreement, which would not be accepted by the Union.
