Akindele Olufunke Ayotunde known simply as Funke Akindele is a well-known actress of substance and has been in the Nigerian entertainment industry for more than 14 years. She came into the scene after playing the role of a Bisi, a young school girl in the 'I Need To Know', a United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) initiative.

In 2008, Funke Akindele released her most successful movie till date; Jenifa, a Yoruba comedy-drama where she played the part of a young village girl who goes to the city and tries as much as possible to fit in. In 2009 she won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for the part she played in Jenifa.

She released another movie 'Omo Ghetto' in 2010 that received massive acclaim. Recently, she starred in a Nollywood movie with Aki and Pawpaw titled 'Jet Fighter' where she played the role of a sister to the duo.
Apart from being a superb actress, Funke Akindele is also a talented Producer and Director with major award winning movies to her credit including 'Taiwo Taiwo', 'Apaadi', 'Jenifa', 'Maku', 'Agbefo' and 'Ekuro'.

Funke Akindele has been nominated for and received many awards for her roles as an actress and as a producer. Some of them are; Best Supporting Actress, 2007 (Afro Hollywood Awards), Best Actress 2008 (Naija Community, Canada), Best Actress in 2009 (AMAA), Best Actress 2008&2009 (City People), Future Awards in 2009, Hottest Movie Personality (City People) among many others.

In one of the most lavish and glamorous celebrity weddings of 2012, Funke got married to Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede on Saturday May 26, 2012. The marriage however lasted for just 11 months before hitting the rocks due to what she described as verbal and emotional abuse.

Following the success of her Jenifa brand, she went into more movie production and was appointed as one of the Nollywood ambassadors by Telecommunications giant, Globacom. In a bid to widen her business scope, she is set to launch a new brand of perfume called 'Jenifa Perfume'. She is also set to release the concluding part to her Jenifa movie which is expected to be released soon as confirmed via her twitter page.
