EXPECT AN INCREASE IN ELECTRICITY TARIFFS - FASOLA

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has unveiled his plan on infrastructural development for the nation. Fasola sketched out the Federal Government’s blueprint for the country in the three sectors and noted that electricity tariffs, particularly in populous areas and industrial clusters, would increase. The minister said that the Federal Government would ensure the completion of highways and particularly stated that work would recommence on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the short term.

According to him, the Federal Government was planning to construct 480 flats in each state of the federation or 17,760 flats nationwide for a start, provided that the 2016 budget would be able to support the initiative. He confirms that there would be an increase in electricity tariffs which would result in significant improvement in the lives and activities of the citizens.
Speaking at his maiden press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the minister also stated that the government would prioritise the completion of ongoing power projects and encourage embedded power generation for use by industrial clusters in commercial centres of the various states. Meanwhile, Fasola said that there was no evidence to show that generator dealers in the country were operating as a cartel to put a stop to government’s plans of generating enough power.
