Businessman burgles Medview Airline’s plane, carts away N22m worth of goods


A 44-year-old businessman, Kingsley Evbuomwan allegedly burgled an aircraft belonging to Medview Airline at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja, a police prosecutor, Inspector Essien Ndarake told an Ikeja Chief Magistrate's Court. Ndarake alleged that the accused, who resides at Omolara Crescent, Ikorodu and some others still at large on October 26, 2016 robbed the aircraft and stole goods worth N22 million. The goods comprised 49 handsets belonging to a passenger.

Evbuomwan was arraigned on a four-count charge of conspiracy, burglary, stealing and endangering the safety of travellers. The prosecutor said: “The accused stole 49 new iPhone models 6, 7 and 7 plus, valued at N22 million. The accused also burgled the aircraft and stole two suitcases containing a passenger’s cell phone. “The accused intentionally endangered the safety of air travellers by opening the baggage compartment of the aircraft when it was stationed temporarily.”
Evbuomwan, however, denied the charges. The magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, then granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum. She adjourned the case to March 21, 2017, for mention.
