CBN To Extend BVN Registration To Microfinance Banks, Others



The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) plans to extend the Bank Verification Number (BVN) registration project to customers of other Financial Institutions (OFIs), its Director, Banking and Payment Systems Department, Dipo Fatokun, has said. The OFIs are Microfinance Banks, Primary Mortgage Institutions and others. Mr. Fatokun made the disclosure at a bi-monthly forum organised by Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria (FICAN) in Lagos on Sunday.

Over 5 million customers’ accounts blocked Due to BVN


At least five million bank accounts were deactivated by Deposit Money Banks operating in the country on Saturday night following the October 31, 2015 deadline set by the Central Bank of Nigeria for bank customers to register and obtain their Bank Verification Numbers, findings by our correspondents showed on Monday.The affected customers were, among other things, barred from withdrawing cash and transferring funds through Automated Teller Machines, Internet banking platforms and over-the-counter in the banking halls.

Customers Storm Twitter To Complain About Account Suspensions #BVN


The BVN registration officially ended on Saturday, October 31st, and now we are just beginning to see the rippling effects. Several customers of GtBank have taken to twitter to angrily complain about their accounts been suspended despite having either enrolled or linked their BVNs to their accounts.

No Going Back On October 31st BVN Deadline - CBN Insists


The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says Oct. 31 remains the deadline for bank customers to obtain their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN). Mr Dipo Fatokun, Director, Banking and Payment System Department (BPSD) of CBN re-affirmed this while speaking to journalists yesterday in Abuja. Fatokun said that at the deadline, bank customers that had not enrolled for BVN would not be able to access their accounts.
