The Nigerian army has named Brigadier-General Shuaibu Ibrahim from Nigerian Army University BIU, as the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). A statement releasing the redeployment and signed by Sagir Musa, the army spokesman, said Ibrahim takes over from S.Z. Kazaure.

Windstorm Wreaks Havoc At Taraba NYSC Camp, 33 Left Hospitalised

A heavy windstorm has wreaked havoc at the orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Taraba State. A total of 33 Batch A 2019 corps members were hospitalised following the incident which destroyed buildings and other valuables on Saturday at the camp in Sibre, on the outskirt of Jalingo, the state capital.

NYSC Announces Date For Batch B, Stream 1 Orientation

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed July 24 for the commencement of orientation course for prospective Stream 1, Batch ‘B’ corps members nationwide. The spokesperson of the agency, Adenike Adeyemi, disclosed this in a press statement Wednesday. She said the orientation course for the batch will hold from July 24 to August 13. According to the statement, the Director-General of the Scheme, Suleiman Kazaure, disclosed the information at a pre-orientation meeting of the NYSC Management with state coordinators and Camp Commandants in Abuja on Tuesday.

Why we can’t arrest, investigate Adeosun over NYSC certificate scandal – Police

The police have stated that they cannot investigate the alleged forgery of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, exemption certificate by the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, because there is no formal complaint against her. The Force spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, told newsmen yesterday in Abuja, that the Nigerian Police was not aware of the allegations against the minister, adding that no one had come forward to lodge a complaint against her.

NYSC Forgery Saga: Police IG Asked To Probe Kemi Adeosun

A non-governmental organisation, Human and Environmental Development Agenda Resource Centre, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, calling for the probe of the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, over media reports alleging that she forged an exemption certificate of the National Youth Service Corps. HEDA, in the petition by its Chairman, Olanrewaju Suraju, said it wanted Adeosun prosecuted should the forgery allegation be established. Also, an anti-corruption group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, challenged the minister to break her silence and respond to the allegation.

NYSC Members To Get N2m Start-up Capital from BOI

The Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps in Osun State, Mr. Emmanuel Attah, has said the Federal Government has made plans for corps members with good business ideas to get loans of between N200,000 and N2m to start their businesses after the service year. Attah stated that the loan, which would be given in collaboration with the Bank of Industry, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, would be made available to corps members after they might have undergone skill acquisition and entrepreneurial development programmes. The coordinator said this during the skill acquisition and entrepreneurial development inter-platoon competition and exhibition at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ede, Osun State on Tuesday.

The NYSC 2017 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course is scheduled to hold in Fifteen (15) NYSC Orientation Camps only, namely; Abia, Bauchi, Benue, Delta, Enugu, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Plateau, Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Rivers and the FCT. The Orientation Course is to commence as follows;

 

(a) Commencement and Registration: Tuesday 16th January, 2018

(b) Cut-off date for Registration: Midnight Wednesday,17th January, 2018

(c) Swearing-In Ceremony: Thursday, 18th January, 2018

NYSC Member Praises God After Surviving Fatal Road Accident That Killed His Colleagues (Photos)

A Nigerian National Youth Service Corps member, Silas Igoche Uloko, from Benue State couldn't hide his joy after surviving a fatal road accident while on their way to Benin State on Wednesday, August 16.

 

His joy was expressed through his brother Abel Uloko, a resident pastor at House on The Rock who wrote on Facebook and said:

A young female National Youth Service Corps member has died after being trapped close to 8 hours under a building in Owerri, Imo state. 

The woman identified as Ngozi Blessing Oformezie died at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital in Rivers State, where she was rushed to for further medical observation, after her condition deteriorated.

According to a journalist, Chidiebube Okeoma who shared the information on social media, the dead corper's kidney was affected by the sad incident causing her to have urinary problem.

Fake Corp Member Arrested In Akwa Ibom Orientation Camp

A fake corp member has been arrested by the Akwa Ibom police command at the NYSC orientation camp in the state. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Chukwu Ikechukwu, in a statement on Wednesday, said the fake corps member, Mr Justice Orlu, was arrested after policemen at the camp were alerted.

Sultan slams NYSC for opening orientation camps during Ramadan

The Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, has “condemned in strongest terms” the decision of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, to continue with its orientation camps for fresh graduates across the country despite the Ramadan fast. The body, led by Abubakar Sa’ad, the Sultan of Sokoto, also called on the Nigerian Army to immediately postpone its planned recruitment exercise until Muslims have concluded their fasting period. The leadership of the National Youth Service Corp has announced major plans for the camping period for batch A corp members. This is as stated in the NYSC Batch A 2017 official Time Table. Consequently upon this, the management of the scheme has scheduled the 2017 Batch A Orientation course to commence from Tuesday 23rd may to Monday 12th June 2017 nationwide. Prospective Corps members are expected to log on to the NYSC Portal to commence printing of their call-up letters from 18th may to 23rd may 2017. While those who did not subscribe for online printing should start collection of Call-up letters from 18th may from their various institutions of graduation.

NYSC finally launches mobile application

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has launched a mobile application. This, it explained, would enable corps members set up businesses after the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurial Development (SAED) programme. NYSC Director General, Brigadier General Sule Kazaure, who launched the application at a stakeholders meeting in Abuja, said corps members could now engage partners that would create funds to support their skill acquisition services.
