Plans have begun fully for the 50th birthday celebrations of popular filmmaker and actor, Saidi Balogun as Osun State governor, Rauf Aregebsola; Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Lai Mohammed and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi have been confirmed to grace the event. The event which begins on May 22 with a visit to accidents unit of the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan is aimed at showcasing the achievement of the actor and contributions to the Nigerian movie industry over the last three decades.

I Can Never Reconcile with My Ex-Wife Fathia ––Saidi Balogun

 

Since they both acted in Mercy Aigbe's multimillion naira movie, people have been saying there is a possibility that they would reconcile and start living as husband and wife for the sake of their kids.

Mr James Bond, Saidi Balogun has addressed  this in a chat with Encomium, saying that he is not ready to reconcile with his ex-wife, Fathia, and as a matter of fact, they will never talk again for life.

What many had expected would be a reunion of sorts between Saheed Balogun and his ex wife, Fathia, did not happen as the two ex lovers did not even greet each other at the recently held Yoruba Movie Academy Awards (YMAA). The award took place in Ibadan on Sunday at the Civic Centre. Saheed was on his way out of the event hall when Fathia walked in. Both passed bye each other without uttering a word.

He simply walked away smiling as he shook his head. Many fans had come to show their support for the award that was put together by Laface. Just as the award could not bring Saheed and Fathia back together, so could it not truly resolve the leadership tussle that has been bugging ANTP. From the recent show of superiorty that was displayed by the factional leaders of Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) and Theatre Arts Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) at the award. There seems not be an end in sight to the crisis rocking the Yoruba movie industry. 

Many had thought that the recent court injunction that declared Ashaolu as the president of ANTP would subdue the leadership tussle that had polarised the association for more than 10 years.

The interim leader of TAMPAN, Yemi Solade, and his ANTP counterpart, Comrade Victor Ashaolu, were both guests at the YMAA awards. Their  presence caused a stir as both of them tried to gain superiority over one another.

It was the believe of many that YMAA would unite the warring parties and chart a new begining for the Ashaolu-led regime. However, it didn’t take much time before it became obvious that the stakeholders were not at the venue to discuss their differences, but to enjoy the show.

Solade had hinted that he was ready to chart a new course for the new association which broke away from ANTP shortly after court declared Ashaolu the leader of the association.

He insisted that no amount of plea would bring back the former members of ANTP back to the association.

Ashaolu came to the venue with his followers in ANTP, spent few minutes on the red carpet and  moved to the VIP session where Adewale Ayuba, DJ Semite, Toyin Adegbola, Jibola Dabur, Dayo Adeneye, Yemi Solade and other guests sat.

Solade, who called on members of the TAMPAN when he mounted the stage, got a favourable response from them. but it was not the same for Ashaolu. Their president did not get same respomse from the crowd compared to Solade’s.

Not moved by the development though, Ashaolu continued with his presentation,  lauding the organiser of the event for putting up a beautiful show.

Meanwhile, Ashaolu has sworn in electoral members as well as interim officers to some executive offices in the local, state and national levels of the association.

He gave the five members, consisting of electoral members, a two-month ultimatum to organise fresh election and bye elections into all vacant posts.

The electoral members include: Alhaji Kamoru Aremu, from Lagos State chapter, as the chairman; Mr Elijah Afolayan, secretary; while Mr Adegoke Akanbi, Kwara State chapter, Mr Olagoke Olaleye, Osun State chapter and Kehinde Oyeyemi, Ogun State chapter are members of the committee.

A pioneer member of the association, Dr Remi Adedokun, who muted the idea of getting ANTP officially registered, and who is currently on sabbatical leave at the University of Ile Ife, told R that though the crisis rocking the association had been on for years, he said that there were lots of programmes and trainings that were initiated during their time.

“I liaised with the government on the need to support the association which they did, but the problem resurfaced when we stepped aside.”

Recently Yes International Magazine reported that actor Saheed Balogun impregnated and abandoned the mother of his first child! Well, Saheed has reacted to the story in a new interview with ENCOMIUM. Read below:  

Let’s talk about key issue. Recently, there was a social media report that your first wife cursed you, that’s why your marriage to Fathia crashed. Not only that, the report also added that you have not seen your first daughter, Zenat, that you abandoned her to her mother. What’s your reaction to this? 

 I wasn’t the only one that was shocked when they posted it. I believe the whole world was also shocked to read that kind of publication. Even the child they wrote about was also shocked. It was a blogger who only likes blackmailing that reported it. He didn’t even stop at that, he also sent it to all his Blackberry contacts. Then when Zenat saw it, she was just crying. My daughter called me that same morning she saw it, and started crying. She said, ‘Daddy, What’s all this? I saw something now that you have not shown me for the past 12 years. Is this the way this country is going to pay you back, instead of appreciating what you’re doing?’ I now told her, it’s not like that, but what she saw  was the handiwork of some people who think they have the power to blog, and they can post anything they like. Let them go ahead and be posting their rubbish. The shocker was that a lot of people saw the girl acting in my movie recently. Did she fall from the sky to join the cast of the movie? The same guy who wrote that I have not seen my daughter in the last 12 years used the picture of myself , Zenat and Khalid in that same blog not long ago. That means somebody must be sick. Please, help me ask them, the public should also ask them what they want. We need to rest for God’s sake. The whole country is in disarray. They don’t write about that or suggest anyway forward, I keep wondering  if there is no law in Nigeria again. A lot of these things are  happening and we fold ours arms. Those doing this are blackmailers. They are only looking for a way of making money. And the same set of people are complaining about the president, that means if they are allowed to rule, definitely they will deceive us just like they’re doing  now with their blogs.                                                                                                                                                             

Journalism is a very good profession and I believe as a journalist, if you see a story or you’re told of anything about somebody, you need to investigate before putting your pen on paper. And as a blogger, you don’t just jump to your blog and start posting what you didn’t confirm, and people will now start reacting. But special thanks to Almighty God, since they posted it people didn’t even react to it because it shocked them. That’s why I keep saying, help me ask these people if there is anything they want from me. They should just voice it out, instead of embarking on cheap blackmail.


Are you sure your daughter is happy with you and you see her often?

Yes, there is no problem between me and my daughter. We are happy. People should just think deeply before they write anything. They shouldn’t write to ruin other people’s tomorrow because of money.


How old is Zenat now?

My beautiful, good looking angel is 15. Like father like daughter, she is much okay. Let the president, ministers or governors be aware, if any of their sons is willing to take her for a wife, they are free (laughs).



What of her mother who they said had cursed you?

She is fine also, we talk regularly. We are happy people. She is very happy where she is, I am also happy where I am. Everybody is just looking for a way forward. My daughter, Zenat wants to be a movie producer and director. So, when you see a happy home like this, is writing something like that the good way of making them happier or spoiling their joy? So, those involved in blackmailing should check themselves.



What of the curse by your first wife, how true is it and when exactly did that happen?

I don’t know anything like that o. What I think is that some years back, there was this kind of rubbish that was written by a magazine but was cleared. So, I don’t know where they got that.


Are you saying nothing like that happened between you and your first wife?

Nothing like that. You can also see from my Facebook. Okay, my daughter featured in my two films, Alanu Aye mi and Eti Keta. So, if there is any problem, would she have participated in any movies? With due respect, there are some fantastic and hardworking bloggers, I give it to them. But we have some whose main job is to blackmail.



There is a tale that you’re planning to wed your new lover, how true is that?

That’s good news and am happy to hear that. Let’s wait and see.



Are you denying that? We even heard that she is pregnant for you?

I have told you, Let’s wait and see. I have no comment on that.



Lest we forget, We learnt you and Fathia share the same birthday, how true is it?

It’s true. We were born on the February 5 but not the same year. We were even born in the same hospital.

Finally- Fathia Balogun Finally Drops Her Ex-husband’s Last Name

The Nollywood actress has been embroiled in a bitter battle with her ex-husband Saheed Balogun over her refusal to drop his last name even after their separation but it seems she has finally decided to drop it even though it was reported that Saheed dragged her to court over the issue.

Fathia Balogun recently reverted her last name on her Instagram page back to her maiden name. We hope the feud is finally over.

Well, Fathia in a recent interview with PUNCH has claimed otherwise.
Speaking through her publicist, Seun Oloketuyi, Fathia told PUNCH thus:

"Our attention has been drawn to media reports where Saheed Balogun claims that he knows nothing about the media reports that he is in court with our client Fathia Balogun over his decision to ask his former wife to stop using his name.

"We will like to put the records straight. The case is in court and our lawyers are on it to ensure that our client retains the name. We won't be saying much at this time but we believe that adults should be bold and mature enough to take responsibility for their actions and not do something and say something else.

"We won't say anything further on this matter until judgement is given as this case resumes hearing."

Actor Saheed Balogun Drags Ex-Wife Fathia Balogun To Court for Using His Name

Few years ago, Saheed Balogun reportedly said he would soon stop his ex-wife, actress Fathia Balogun, from using his name - Balogun, since they are no longer husband and wife. Saheed was quoted to have said: "She is my ex. As for my name that she is still answering, the deed will be done soon. The Nigerian law says that after three or four years, you can do something about it. If somebody wants to keep my name, what of the new person coming in? This has nothing to do with grudges."

And now, it looks as if Saheed is set to do something about his threat. A reliable source informed Saturday Beats that the actor had taken his ex to court insisting that she drop his name.
But it won't be easy as Fathia had also reportedly boasted that nobody could stop her from using the name.
Fathia had said, "I laugh, my name is Fathia Balogun and it's going to remain Balogun; nobody can ever change that and nobody can stop me from answering that name."

Recently, the talented actor spoke with Daily Independent, on speculations surrounding his person and more.
•What have you been up to since you produced your last movie, You or I?
First, I need to tell those who have not seen the movie what it is based on so that they can go and watch it. The movie focuses on the reasons marriages crash. Basically, it is a story about marriage and finding answers to the questions about the challenges of married couples. To answer your question, my production outfit sets records in the movie industry. I have produced a two-cast movie, one where all the characters wore Ankara fabric throughout and most recent a movie featuring an all white cast. So, we are putting finishing touches to another innovation that will be coming out soon.
Have you heard of my one-cast movie? That too is an innovation.
•How would you describe its commercial success?
It was marvellous. Initially, the marketing was not what we expected, but it picked later and we thank God. The movie has delivered what we targeted when we began working on it. Besides, other achievements, it became the first two-cast movie in Nigeria, if not in Africa. That is a record and I set it.
•Has it won any awards yet?
It won an award in London. In Nigeria, however, it is yet to win any. But I won't dwell on that.
•You seem to always get involved in one controversy or the other. Why is this so?
The grace of God has kept me going. I don't allow scandals to affect me. You need to understand that if someone is talking about you, you have to thank God because there are people who are looking for people to talk about them. My plea to writers is that they should contact me first before writing about me. Some of the things I have read about myself are things I can't imagine myself doing.
•Tell us about your current relationship because at a point in time they said you remarried secretly?
You see, you need to leave my relationship alone for now. When the right time comes, I will talk about it. The story that I remarried was a funny one.
•What is your relationship with your ex-wife, Fathia?
You are still talking about my privacy.
•What would be your reaction to a producer who pairs you and Fathia as a couple on a set?
I am a professional in this field. I will do it, if the pay is attractive. I used to refuse to think of the possibility before, but it can actually happen, if the pay is attractive I will do the movie with her.
•Giving the opportunity, would you turn back the hands of time to be with your ex?
I am doing perfectly fine as I am. I am happy the way God has been leading my life. I respect women a lot.
•What is the nature of your relationship with Remi Adikwu-Bakare?
She is like a mentor and a mother to me. She enlightens me on business and other matters. When I left the hospital, she and her husband were the people who were there for me. I can't forget them for any reason. I was insane for the first two weeks that I had the accident. I was a dead man
walking, but God used them to bring me back to life.
•How soon do you hope to try married again?
It is a private question, but I am married to my business for now. I am married to Saidi Balogun Production. I can marry an actress if the person is the right one God has chosen for me.
•How have you been coping with piracy in the Nigerian movie industry?
We have cried for a longtime to the government and we hope that one day they will find a solution to the menace. There is a law in Lagos State that if you are caught in the act, you will pay N50,000. In Ondo State, if you are caught selling pirated films, you will be fined. We go through a lot to produce our movies and instead of smiling to the banks, we end up not even making the production cost.
•Can you compare the Nigerian movie industry with that of America?
The Nigerian movie industry is growing, but we can do better. Abroad, people spend good money in producing movies and they get good returns. However, in Nigeria, once you cannot make your money in the cinema, you are dead. I am looking forward to the day piracy will be eradicated.
You had a stint with music, but nothing has been heard of you musically afterwards, why is this?
I will go back to doing music very soon, but, for now, I am focusing more on movie production.
•Are you not worried people would tag you a failed musician?
Over the years, I have learnt not to react to people's comment about me and my career. People are naturally mischievous when they want to drag your name into the mud. If I consider myself a bad musician, I would not have ventured into it.
•There was this talk about Globacom signing you as an ambassador, was it true?
Indeed there was a speculation, but like you said it was talks by some people. I don't know anything about it.
•Would you like to be a Globacom ambassador?
It is a two way thing. If they approach me, I may take it and I may not. It is the condition of the deal that matters. What the organisation is doing to the industry is good, but a lot still needs to be done to move it forward.
•Tell us about the woman in your life
Some things are better kept private. I don't want to raise unnecessary dust. I am doing just fine
