Tosyn’s Ten 10s: Kendrick Lamar drew first blood

Economy Fare Sale

It was just another day… Till Kendrick made it not.
Whether or not you like hip-hop, you would have seen that Kendrick Lamar (or Lawal as some call him) was trending and you may have wondered why.
It was because of a track titled ‘Control’ by Big Sean featuring Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica. And it inspired this week’s ten 10s
10. I wonder if Big Sean heard Kendrick’s verse and then went ‘ *sigh* Should have featured Drake o jejely’. Because…
9. …how can you feature someone on your track and their verse is what people are talking about? Is this why…
8. …Rappers don’t like to feature other rappers on their tracks and would rather work with singers ?

7. You have to excuse the Snoop Lion and Miley Cyrus collaboration though. That’s purely Snoop doing business and wanting Miley’s audience to buy his records.
6. And speaking of business, Kendrick wasn’t hating on any of the rappers he mentioned was he? It was more like, ‘Look, this is hip hop so we can be family, but it’s still business, and a competition’
5. There was no diss there… Shouldn’t rappers he didn’t mention feel more dissed than those he did mention?
4. You could interpret that verse as meaning, ‘these are the rappers I rate. The rest of y’all are fake’
3. And isn’t it funny how hours after the song dropped, a million rappers were looking for studios and challenging Kendrick’s title? What had they been doing before? Sleeping on bicycles?
2. If you need the occasional ‘diss’ track (be it in hip-hop or the corporate world) to work hard, then maybe you shouldn’t be in the race at all.
1. In the end though, Kendrick drew first blood. Everything else now just seems like ‘Kendrick made you look!’. Lesson learnt- if you think you’re the king of a castle, claim your crown before someone else does.
*disclaimer* I’m just a random girl who likes Tupac and Eminem. I am not a Hip-hop head.
