Other claims have emerged over the
cure of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). This time, the heart of a cobra and
the eyeball of a porcupine, along
with a payment of £200(equivalent to about 50,000 Naira) can cure Ebola,
according to a witch-doctor. According to the Times of London report, traditional
healers argue that Ebola is simply witchcraft, so witchdoctors are needed to
cure it.
This prompted a Nigerian man styling himself as Dr Zack Balo
claiming to be able to cure Ebola with various animal parts and a £200
fee. Other witchdoctors suggest bathing
in salt water at midnight, eating raw onions for three days, or a daily
spoonful of condensed milk.
Some do not charge for their work, but many do, demanding
more than £100 per session, as well as a goat or sheep for sacrifice.
As a result of claims like these, Nigerian officials have arrested several conmen believed to be cashing in on the crisis.
