LUTH Discharges Three Doctors Infected With Lassa Fever.

Two doctors infected with Lassa fever and receiving treatment at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, have been discharged. The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chris Bode, who disclosed this in Lagos on Wednesday, also confirmed that the first doctor to have had contact with the index patient had been discharged since Sunday.He said

3 More LUTH Staff Test Positive For Lassa Fever

Three out of the 100 health workers that came in contact with a pregnant woman who died of Lassa fever at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, have tested positive for the infection.

LUTH’s Chief Medical Director, Prof. Chris Bode, confirmed this at a joint briefing by the hospital’s management and officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Health on Wednesday.

Lassa Fever Hits Seven States In Nigeria, Kills Six

The Federal Government on Monday raised the alarm over an increasing number of Lassa fever cases since December 2016 and advised that increased attention should be focussed on prevention and preparedness. The government specifically confirmed the death of six persons out of 19 confirmed cases of Lassa fever in seven states. Already, a Lassa fever working group has been setup at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, a parastatal in the Federal Ministry of Health, to ensure no state was left behind.

Kill Rats And Make Money In Lagos

In a bid to avert incidents of Lassa fever and other vector-borne diseases in Lagos State, a non-governmental organisation, Phosguard Fumigant Limited, in partnership with the state government, has introduced a bounty, ‘Kill rats, make money.’ Under the project, rodents in the state will be bought by the NGO after they had been killed using hi-tech chemicals and equipment that would make their decomposing bodies non-infectious, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Lassa fever: Nurse confirmed dead in Nasarawa

The Chairman of the Nasarawa state Rapid Response Task Force from the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu, has confirmed the death of a male nurse at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia, who treated the index case of Lassa fever outbreak in the state.

Lassa Fever Kills Medical Doctor in Rivers

 

Lassa Fever disease has killed yet another person in Rovers State. According to the Chairman of the Rivers state branch of Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Dr. Furo Green, a medical doctor with Braithwait Memorial Specialist Hospital, BMH, Dr. Livy Ijamala, has died from Lassa Fever, making the total number of deaths to 3 in the state.

1 Dead As Lassa Fever Jumps To Edo State

The Edo State government has confirmed that one person has died from Lassa fever disease. The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Heregie Aihanuwa, said that the dead person was among the five persons that were brought to the Irrua Specialist Hospital for showing symptoms of Lassa fever disease.
