Nigeria’s army is planning a makeover for the Sambisa Forest, from being the den of Boko Haram terrorists into a tourist destination. Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, announced the plan on Wednesday.

Nigerian Army begins road construction in Sambisa forest

The Nigerian Army on Wednesday said it had embarked on road construction project in Sambisa Forest as part of ongoing clearance operation to dislodge remnants of Boko Haram insurgents. The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka, made the disclosure in a statement issued in Maiduguri. Kukasheka said that the army had begun construction of access road to open the forest and link adjourning communities.

The Nigerian Army has reacted to reports which claimed officers reportedly invaded Nnamdi Kanu’s home in Umuahia, and allegedly shot an IPOB member. Kayode Disu, a civil servant, has alleged that his landlord, Col. Abiodun Adekoya, forcefully evicted him from his apartment at the Federal Housing Estate, Lugbe, Abuja and confiscated his phone and other belongings. According to Punch Metro, Disu, in a petition to the Chief of Army Staff, dated August 8, 2017, explained that the colonel threatened to beat up other tenants who offered to keep his (Disu) things in their apartments after Adekoya had ordered two soldiers to throw his belongings out on the street. Disu, a member of staff of the Police Service Commission, attributed the military officer’s aggression to his nine months’ rent indebtedness. He stated that the illegal eviction happened on August 7 around 5pm, and was witnessed by his neighbours, Mrs. Tina Oyageshio and Mr. Emmanuel Mshliza.

Nigerian Army restricts soldiers from posting pictures, videos on social media

The Nigerian army has barred its men from uploading pictures and videos of their operations on social media. According to Daily Trust, Adeniyi Oyebade, a lieutenant-general and general officer commanding (GOC) 1 Division Mechanized Army, Kaduna, gave the directive on Tuesday. Oyebade said this when he represented Tukur Buratai, chief of army staff, at the graduation ceremony of Men of Nigerian Battalion (NIBBAT) 46, which held at the Nigerian Army Peace Keeping Centre (NAPKC), Jaji in Kaduna.

General Chris Olukolade Replaced as Director of Defence Information

According to a statement from the Nigerian Army, General Chris Olukolade has been replaced as the Director of Defence Information. Colonel Rabe Abubakar will take over from him in Acting capacity. It will be recalled that Olukolade became DFI in March 2013.

The Nigerian Army has reportedly found Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s Secondary School leaving certificate, according to Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, a former Honourable Commissioner for Lagos State Ministry for Tourism & Inter-Governmental Relations.

The APC UK also confirmed on it’s Twitter page.

This is coming a few days after the President-elect won the presidential election.
