If we end SARS, robbers will take over — Police

The Force Spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, has revealed why they can't end SARS ,noting if the unit is scrapped ,Armed robbers would take over .When asked why the re-organisation of SARS took so long,he told Punch I won’t argue that it took some time for the re-organisation. Since the IG assumed office, he has been instituting internal reforms in the operation of the force. He also fashioned out some creed which is like our Bible or Quran guiding our work. This creed has been drummed into the operatives and everywhere he goes, he impresses it on the personnel to respect human rights, shun corruption and indiscipline and to be civil. To say it took us long to re-organise the squad would not be correct because when he assumed office, he directed the training of SARS operatives by some civil organisations and the Red Cross. What we are saying is that, some of the complaints in the social media are genuine, and some happened five, six years ago and some are bringing them up now. We know that any organisation that is subject to public opinion has to grapple with the responsibility of educating the public constantly. We can’t say because there are one or two infractions, we should end SARS because if you end SARS, robbers would take over. We appreciate the patriotism of those demanding an end to SARS, but other groups are equally saying, reform SARS. So if they have any complaint against the unit, let them tell us and it would be addressed.

Policeman Opens Fire on Lorry Driver in Abia over Biafra Flag (Photos)

A lorry driver's life was threatened in Aba, Abia State after a policeman reportedly shot at him for refusing to take down a Biafra flag hanging in his vehicle. A bullet hole could be seen on the windscreen of the truck alongside a crack from the shot but the driver was safe. This stirred up rukus in the area as residents were thrown into panic. Police Sergeant Cries Uncontrollably As He Is Dismissed, Arraigned Over Ritual killer's Escape

The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed a police sergeant, Johnbosco Okoroeze, for allegedly aiding the escape of a suspected ritual killer, Ifeanyi Dike, from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Port Harcourt. Okoroeze, who was also arraigned by the police before a chief magistrate’s court on two counts bordering on obstruction of justice and conspiracy, was remanded in custody for the alleged offences. Police Deny Arresting Good Samaritan

Police on Wednesday denied that a Good Samaritan, Happiness, who picked up a missing four-year-old girl, has been arrested. Reports had said the woman was arrested by policemen attached to the Ifako Police Division. However, the state Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, has denied the claims, warning Lagos residents to stop acts that could pit the people against security forces. A story written by one Anuoluwapo Eso and shared on Facebook by a banker, Akinmade Boluwaji, had accused the police of unjust arrest of Sister Happiness, a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Glory Worship Centre, who found a child near the Ifako canal on July 20 and took her to the church.

Police reject bribe from serial rapist caught with 5 year old girl

Policemen attached to Ilasa Division in Lagos have arrested a suspected serial rapist for allegedly defiling a five-year-old girl at Osoyintola area of Ilasamaja. Preliminary investigation, as gathered, revealed that the victim was the sixth minor to be raped by the suspect, identified as Emeka. Emeka, reportedly, usually lured his victims, whose ages are between five and six years, with sweets and biscuits into bathrooms and toilets, where he rapes them. He met his Waterloo weekend, after a tenant caught him in the act with the five-year-old and raised the alarm. A resident, Tolani Bakare, told Vanguard that “ Emeka gave the girl biscuit, took her into the toilet and raped her.

I’m Ready To Fund Additional Police Area Commands, Let’s Have One In Ikorodu & Badagry- Ambode

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State yesterday, requested for two additional Police Area Commands, saying they would go a long way in tackling the nefarious activities of criminally minded persons once and for all. Ambode, who made the request when the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Idris Ibrahim paid him a courtesy visit at the Lagos House in Ikeja, said the additional Area Commands, if granted, would be set up in Ikorodu and Badagry, assuring that the State Government was ready to provide the funds to set them up.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Aderanti, weekend, said that the command had clue of who the robbers that stormed a second generation bank last Thursday, killing three policemen and a teenager, were, assuring that it would soon round them up. Investigation as gathered had begun by joint crack detectives from the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS and those from the newly instituted Tactical Operation Unit. The operatives as gathered would also spread their dragnet to neighbouring Benin Republic where the fleeing armed men were suspected to have taken refuge.

Amaechi Exposes Rivers Police Commissioner Joseph Mbu

  
 Following revelation by Archbishop Ignatius Kattey that the Rivers State police command lied to Nigerians by claiming that they rescued him, the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mbu has gone silent. He is no longer talking in the media as usual. But Governor Rotimi Amaechi has opened a new phase in the controversy surrounding the Police officer. At the just concluded International Fashion Week in Port Harcourt, Amaechi accused Mbu of mingling with some criminals who are giving the state headache. Recalling that the state was able to fight crime before the coming of Mbu, Governor Amaechi said: “Mbu is mingling with criminals... We have been able to fight crime in the past and we chased criminals away from the state with the support of police commissioners who came to serve in the state at that time. But only Mbu has refused to support us in fighting crime. "Those who stole the resources of the state are trying to come back. The government with the people of the state will not allow them,” he declares. Amaechi had earlier stated that it's only in countries like Iraq and Afghanistan that a man like Mbu should be allowed to head the police in state, givings his mode of operation.
