Evacuation Almost Done On Otedola Bridge After Fuel Tanker Explosion (Photos)


Emergency workers are toiling hard to remove the damage caused by the petrol tanker that exploded after overturning in Lagos yesterday. All is almost set for normal activities to resume at the Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway where at least 9 people were killed and over 54 vehicles burnt after a fuel tanker fell and exploded there yesterday. The tanker which was loaded with PMS, had a brake failure while trying to overtake a vehicle before crashing and exploding in the process, according to reports. 8 adults and 1 minor died, while 4 persons sustained various degrees of injuries and taken to the hospital. Emergency management workers were said to have been mobilised to the scene to rescue commuters trapped in the accident.

SAD: 30 Die In New Year’s Eve Road Accident


Thirty people were killed and 16 injured in a road accident early Sunday morning after a bus and a truck had a head-on collision in central Kenya. “We have 30 dead,” said Rift Valley traffic police chief Zero Arome of the 3am accident close to Nakuru town. “All the bodies have been removed from the wreckage and injured people taken to hospital.” The accident occurred close to a notorious stretch on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway when a bus travelling from Busia, in western Kenya, collided with a truck coming from Nakuru.

King of Fuji, Olasunkanmi Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, is bereaved. The music maestro has lost one of his daughters, Olaronke Wasilat Anifowose Marshal to a cruel death.

Wasilat, who was in her 30’s, reportedly died in the early hours of Tuesday in Mississauga, Toronto, Canada, where she lived for long; after a brief illness.

Drunk Teen Found Dead In Walk-in Freezer


A teenager has been found dead in a walk-in freezer following her disappearance from a party at a hotel with friends. A Harlem man fatally knifed his wife in their apartment Sunday night, then jumped out the window and plunged eight stories to his death, police sources said. Cops came across the bloody scene on Frederick Douglass Blvd. at W. 141st St. just after 9:15 p.m., and found Francisco Ferreiras’ broken body in a parking lot outside, according to police sources. Pregnant 16-yr-Old killed & Packed In Suitcase By Her Boyfriend & Mom


The body of a 5 months pregnant 16-year-old girl from the Dominican Republic, Emely Peguero, has been found in a suitcase on the side of the road on Friday. Fetal remains were found in the body of Peguero, who was confirmed to be five months pregnant and tests also showed that her uterus was punctured and she suffered a blunt blow to the head, according to the Attorney General of the Dominican Republic.

Woman in Labour Jumps Off Hospital Building After Family Said No To a Cesarean


A heavily pregnant woman who apparently committed suicide after begging for a caesarean was seen on CCTV doubled over in pain in the final hours before her death. The 26-year-old woman and her unborn baby died after she fell from the fifth floor of the hospital she was being treated in. She had reportedly begged for a caesarean after the baby’s head, which was too large for a natural delivery, caused her intense pain. But she reportedly killed herself when her family, who under Chinese law had to give permission, refused her surgery.

Viral Hepatitis kill many in Nasarawa


Five people reportedly lost their lives to a disease suspected to be viral hepatitis, which broke out in Marhai community in the Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. Viral hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver. According to doctors, the disease spreads in different ways, including through sex, sharing of needles and the consumption of unclean food. One of the members of the community, who spoke to Punch on condition of anonymity, said that quite a number of their people lost their lives to the illness.

The body of a missing mum-to-be has been found dumped in a river, Daily Star UK reports. Savanna Lafontaine-Greywind was found ‘wrapped in plastic after “womb raiders” stole her baby by cutting it out of her’. The 22-year-old’s body was pulled out of the Red River on Sunday night – close to the bridge that connects North Dakota and Minnesota. She had disappeared on August 18 when she said she was going to a neighbour's house. She was eight months pregnant. Police say her body was wrapped in a plastic bag and stuck on a log in the river.

Authorities in Macau categorised it as a force 3 storm until just hours before it hit, but Typhoon Hato was the fiercest storm seen on the Chinese Territory since 1968, its winds of up to 200 km/h more than justifying its category 10 status.
At least 16 people were killed and many more are still missing as rescuers search vehicles that were submerged in the floods that resulted from the typhoon.
Eight died in the gambling hub of Macau, where local media showed cars underwater and people swimming along what are normally streets. The enclave’s famed mega-casinos were running on backup generators.

French TV Journalist Found Dead In a Ditch After Her Horse Bolted


A high-profile French TV journalist died after she fell from her horse while riding in the Loire valley. 
Marlène Seguin, 27, who worked as an equestrian correspondent for the television channel LCI died after her horse bolted in Champdieu on Monday.
Police investigating the incident have not yet ruled out foul play, but say the current evidence strongly suggests her death was a result of a tragic accident.

270 Bodies Recovered From Mudslide In Sierra Leone


Rescue workers have recovered 270 bodies so far from a mudslide in the outskirts of Sierra Leone's capital Freetown, the mayor said on Tuesday. Rescue operations continue in the town of Regent where the mudslide happened on Monday morning, Freetown Mayor Sam Gibson told reporters. The mudslide occurred in the mountain town of Regent, Sierra Leone on August 14, 2017.
